Offensive Burst From Spartans Buries Golden Grizzlies as they Fall in East Lansing

ROCHESTER, Mich. -  The Golden Grizzlies trekked to East Lansing as they prepared for a second match this season against the Michigan State Spartans. The Spartans got the scoring started in the bottom of the first inning with a two RBI double by Macy Lee, scoring 2 runs as MSU went ahead 2-0 early.

MSU tagged another run on the  board in the bottom of the third inning as Anna fox grounded into a fielder's choice, eventually stealing second and scoring on an Oakland error to make the score 3-0. 

Starting pitcher for the Spartans Liv Grey had her best stuff in the circle, striking out seven batters in three innings to start and retiring the first nine Oakland batters of the day.

The Golden Grizzlies earned their first base runners in the top of the fourth inning with a lead-off single by Brooklyn Plitz to left field. Jen Krizka pulled through with a single to right field, advancing Plitz to third base and putting runners on the corners for Oakland. Despite a solid inning, a strikeout and a lineout ended the inning, leaving a pair of runners stranded and keeping Oakland scoreless.

Michigan State exploded in the bottom of the fourth for an 8 run burst, highlighted by a two RBI triple from Alexis Ross to make the score 5-0, followed by a RBI single by Hannah Hawley and another two RBI triple, courtesy of Sydney Dolszycki to up the deficit to 8-0 for Oakland. After a RBI single by Britain Beshears tacked run number nine on the board, Mik Anthony delivered the final blow with a two-run home run to center field as MSU went up 11-0.

Oakland had one last shot for a comeback, drawing three straight walks to start the top of the fifth inning as they loaded the bases. On a just a cold day for the Golden Grizzly bats, they were unable to manufacture any runs to end thee inning and the game, falling 11-0 in East Lansing.
 

Oakland gets ready to take a trip to Fort Wayne, Indiana to take on Purdue Fort Wayne in the final regular season series, beginning on Friday, May 3 at 4 p.m.
