Golden Grizzlies Earn First Sweep of the Season as they Fly past the Phoenix

GREEN BAY, Wis. - Oakland brought their brooms at the ready as they played their third and final game against the Phoenix.

The Phoenix jumped on the board first in the bottom of the second inning as Bella Herman knocked  in an RBI single, scoring one to get Phoenix ahead in the early going.

Oakland answered back the following inning, in the top of the third as Madi Herrington started the rally with a one out double to center field. Jenna Johnston kept it alive with a single up the middle, advancing Herrington to third base. Brooklyn Plitz scored the opening Golden Grizzlies a run with an RBI single to shortstop, scoring Herrington and pushing Johnston over to third base.

Oakland took the lead and kept running in the fourth inning. Jen Krizka and Reese Ruhlman both reached base by back-to-back hit by pitches to start the frame. Taylor Carraway slapped a hard ground ball to the pitcher, moving Krizka to third base and Ruhlman to second base. Kamryn Troyer couldn't leave runners on the bases, so she rocketed a two RBI single up the middle to score both Ruhlman and Krizka making it a 3-1 game.

After a quiet 5th inning, Oakland ramped back up in the 6th inning. Maci Brown continued her red-hot series with a lead-off single to the right side. Krizka moved Brown over to second base with a ground ball, where Ruhlman kept the ball rolling with a single through the left side, advancing Brown to third base. Carraway grounded out, but earned an RBI as some heads-up running from Brown got her across the plate to add another run to the score to make it a 4-1 lead.

Sydney Campbell closed out yet another win to her record making it 13-5 for the senior. Campbell allowed five hits, one run in 7 innings and striking out two batters. In 13 starts this season, Campbell has allowed two or fewer runs.

Troyer was the head batter as she went 2-of-3 with two RBI in the game. Ruhlman and Plitz also earned hits for Oakland. Plitz now extends her hitting streak to seven games.

Oakland gets ready for some mid-week action with a double-header on Wednesday April 17 starting at 1 p.m. at home against IUPUI.
