Golden Grizzlies Split Monday Games with Flyers and Hoosiers to End IU Invite

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Golden Grizzlies go 1-1 in their final pair of games in the Indiana Invite, splitting their third and fourth games of the Indiana Invite with Dayton and the Hoosiers.

GAME 3 v. DAYTON

Oakland started day 3 off with an early face-off against Dayton University, playing at 9:30 a.m.

Oakland's bats were heated up immediately as Reese Ruhlman started off the game with a leadoff single. Ruhlman later stole second base, moving her into scoring position. Ruhlman continued to advance, tagging up on a Maggie Murphy fly out to reach third.

Jen Krizka took one for the team, getting hit by a pitch, moving her to first base and putting runners on the corners with two outs.

Oakland tried to execute a double steal with Krizka and Ruhlman, but the effort was foiled by the Hoosiers. Krizka smartly got into a rundown between first and second base, getting tagged out but not before Ruhlman could cross home plate and end the inning by giving the Golden Grizzlies a 1-0 lead.

The teams went scoreless for the next four innings until Dayton answered back, knotting the game at one run each with an RBI single with runners on second and third in the bottom of the fifth.

With two outs in the sixth inning, Oakland made a big late-game push. After three straight walks given up by Dayton, Alexia Grammatico sent a beam through the left side, bringing home a pair of runners with a two RBI single and put Oakland up 3-1.

The clutch hit from Grammatico was all the Golden Grizzlies needed to win as they held onto the 3-1 lead to get their first victory of the Indiana Invite. The junior from Macomb, Mich. scored her first RBIs on the season, going 1-3 in the game. Ruhlman had a stellar performance at the plate, going 3-3, raising her batting average to .357.

Sydney Campbell earned win number three on the season, pitching another full seven innings and allowing only one run, lowering her ERA to 1.73.

GAME 4 v. INDIANA

The Golden Grizzlies continued the action, taking on the Hoosiers at 12 p.m. almost directly after the conclusion of their morning game.

The Hoosiers struck first in the bottom of the second inning, using seven hits in the inning, including three doubles, to take an early 5-0 lead.

The Golden Grizzlies pushed to diminish the deficit in the top of the third as Allisa DiPrima started the frame off with  a single up the middle. Madi Herrington reached on a fielder's choice and Jen Krizka singled to right field, but a line-drive out ended the inning for Oakland, still scoreless at 5-0.

Indiana added to the lead in the bottom of the third, highlighted by a deep triple from Brooke Benson and two doubles from the rest of the lineup as Indiana took a 9-0 lead.

Oakland's bats couldn't heat up as the Golden Grizzlies fell with the final score staying at 9-0, being shutout for just the third time this season. Krizka, Taylor Carraway, Maci Brown, and Allisa DiPrima all registered hits in the final game, with Carraway's being a double to center field.

The Golden Grizzlies begin conference play later this week as they square up for a Horizon League Championship Game rematch with Northern Kentucky this weekend, starting on Friday, Mar. 15 at 3 p.m. as they head south.
