Men's Soccer Tries to Leap into First Place in Final Road Game of the Season

ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Golden Grizzlies are catching fire at the perfect time, bringing a two-game win streak into what could be the biggest game of the season as they host the Robert Morris Colonials this weekend.

The Golden Grizzlies secured their second consecutive win this past Saturday with a 2-1 road win over Wright State. Goals from Abdul Al-Rashed, who has turned into one of the team's top offensive options, and a game-winner from Zach Townsend set the Golden Grizzlies up for victory against the Raiders.

Oakland now sits in second place in the league, two points behind the Colonials in first place. With a win, Oakland takes sole position of the top spot with just one game to go, but a loss could drop Oakland back as low as fourth place.

History is in favor of Oakland, as the Golden Grizzlies have gone unbeaten against the Colonials in six head-to-head matchups, including a 1-0 win in Moon Township, Pa. last season.

This season Robert Morris has been on fire in conference play with a 4-1-1 record against Horizon League teams. They are currently riding a two-game win streak of their own, most recently routing Green Bay 5-0 at home on Oct. 20.

The play from the Golden Grizzlies has become much more even keeled as the season has progressed, specializing in controlling possession and pace of each match and striking at the right time.

Their defense has been excellent as well, having not allowed a conference opponent to score more than a single goal in a match all season.

In conference play the Colonials and Golden Grizzlies are the two most aggressive teams, with RMU averaging a league-high 13.67 shots per game while tallying 13 goals, while Oakland sits in a close second at 13 shots per game and seven goals scored.

Robert Morris will be looking to attack, especially forward Chase Gilley, who ranks third in the league in goals scored (6).
