ROCHESTER, Mich. - It was a busy and eventful week in Oakland Athletics as five different sports were in action, from basketball to track and field, as great performances were shown throughout. Notably,
Jack Gohlke from the men's basketball team and
Kylei Anderson from the women's track and field team had stellar outings this past weekend, good for this week's OU Prairie Farms Athlete of the Week.
In his home state of Wisconsin, Gohlke was the key contributor for the Golden Grizzlies in a 91-87 double overtime win against Milwaukee. The graduate student tied a game-high with 27 points, also good for a season-high, in 39 minutes played. Gohlke was 8-of-18 from three-point land, as his eight makes also set a season-high. With three added free throws, three rebounds, two assists and one steal, Gohlke came off the bench and hit crucial shots down the stretch. Down three with under a minute left in regulation, Gohlke hit one from range with :36 seconds to go which sent the game into overtime. Along with the three to tie the game, it was also his 1000th career point. Gohlke hit another three, down by three, with :36 seconds left to play in overtime to tie things up and keep Oakland alive as the game went into double overtime. Gohlke sank one final three to put the game out of reach and lead Oakland to the win, becoming the first Horizon League team to win in the state of Wisconsin this season.
On the track, along with the field, Anderson got it done on both sides for the Golden Grizzlies this past weekend at the IUPUI Invite, Oakland track and field's first two-day meet of the season. The freshman qualified for the finals in the Women's 60m Hurdles Friday with a personal best time of 8.84, good for sixth, and bested her time in the finals as she crossed the line in 8.77 seconds, good for second place. Turning towards the field, Anderson also competed in the Women's High Jump and finished the day t-2nd with a height of 1.65m.
