Women Finish Second to Open the 2023 Regular Season

FAIRBORN, Ohio – Oakland University Men's and Women's Cross Country wrapped up their season opener at the Mike Baumer XC Classic at the Fairborn Community Park with second and fourth-place finishes.

On the men's side, Yami Albrecht paced Oakland to a fourth-place finish in the 5,000-kilometer race in 14:52.8 while teammates Collin Kane and Adam Hill crossed the line in 15th and 16th with times of 15:05.1 and 15:06.0, respectively.

Finishing the men's team scoring were Wesley Hollowell and Josiah Magley who stopped their watches in 15:15.7 and 15:32.0 for 25th and 38th.

Grace Nolan was the first Golden Grizzly across in the women's race in 17:34.9 for fifth overall ahead of Jennifer Ohlsson in 13th in 18:16.1. Ohlsson was four seconds or so ahead of Makenna Scott in 14th in 18:20.1.

The final top five finishers for the women were Maryam Sheena and Brooke Hinkelman in 17th and 22nd who stopped watches in 18:29.6 and 18:42.3.

Ohio State University swept the team competition with the Golden Grizzlies men's squad taking fourth overall with 92 points while the women made a runner-up finish with 68 points.

The Golden Grizzlies will be off until Friday, September 15 for the Jaguar Invitational hosted by Horizon League foe IUPUI in Shelbyville, Indiana.
