Huskies and Golden Grizzlies End Defensive Slugfest in Scoreless Draw

DEKALB, Ill. – Oakland University Women's Soccer battled Northern Illinois University on the road to a 0-0 scoreless draw on a sunny Sunday afternoon.

Through the first 45 minutes of Sunday's match, NIU (2-1-1) held a 7-0 shot advantage while the Golden Grizzlies (1-2-1) were held to two corner kick opportunities. Julia Zangerl dropped to a knee to save the Huskies' only shot on goal which was headed for the bottom right corner of the net.

In the second half, Frankie Mudd got the team's first shot off at the 52' minute mark which pulled just to the left. The Huskies were able to generate three more shot attempts before time expired in the prairie state.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Mudd had the only shot of the afternoon for Oakland, NIU put up nine on the board
  • Zangerl held one save in the match in ten shots faced
  • NIU faced eight offside flags while Oakland had only three

The Golden Grizzlies will battle Big Ten Conference opponent Ohio State University on Thursday, September 1 at 5 pm in Columbus, Ohio.
