Golden Grizzlies Gain Points on Day One of #HLTF Championships

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Oakland University Track & Field concluded day one of the 2023 #HLTF Championships in Youngstown, Ohio with a handful of top-eight performances as the meet opened on Friday.

Romario Jackson and freshman Blake Foster earned points in the Men's Discus Throw with fifth and eighth-place performances of 50.84m and 46.16m, respectively. 

In the Women's Javelin, Emily Schaub launched a heave of 35.81m for fifth overall in the event with Jake Kaupp earning seventh in the Men's Javelin event in 48.64m.

Grace Nolan took to the Women's 10,000m and finished her 25 laps with a runner-up showing, crossing the finish line in 35:34.81. In the same event, Erin Hegarty took sixth overall with her finishing time of 36:56.15. 

Colin Kane crossed the line in fourth in the Men's 10,000m for five points added to the Golden Grizzlies' total with his total time of 30:15.49. 

Oakland's 1500m field pushed four to the finals in Hannah Fisher and Ashley Quinn on the women's side with Adam Hill and Sam Vitale on the men's for the finals on Sunday. 

Host Youngstown State leads both the Men's and Women's sides after day one with the Golden Grizzlies men in fifth and women in third at the conclusion of just a few events.

The Women's Shot Put and Women's Long Jump will get the meet started for day two on Saturday, May 6 starting at noon.
