Worthy Breaks School Record, First Home Meet of the Year Concludes

ROCHESTER, Mich. – Makiya Worthy of Oakland University Men's and Women's Track & Field broke a school record on her home oval as part of the Golden Grizzlies Invitational Saturday in Rochester. 

Worthy's career day began in the Women's 200m dash with the win and a mark of 24.76 seconds while throwing in a go-ahead school record in the Women's 400m at 55.12 seconds.

 Ashley Quinn took second in the Women's 1500m run, stopping her watch in 4:35.81 while her teammate, Grace Nolan, placed first overall in the Women's 5000m run in 17:17.49. 

Peyton Sabourin won the Women's 400m Hurdles at 1:01.12 while the Women's 4x100m squad of Shaneese Lamons, Worthy, Samari Finney, and Azsah Bradley won the four-leg event in 46.45 seconds.

In the Men's 400m Hurdles, Gabe Singh posted a runner-up time of 58.30 seconds while second place in the Men's 3,000m Steeplechase belongs to Wesley Hollowell in 9:24.66. 

The 'A' squad of the Men's 4x400m Relay including Justin Kudera, Armon Howard, Julian Bailey, and Singh stole first place in the event with a time of 3:19.74. 

In the Women's Long Jump, Finney placed first overall with a distance of 5.88m (19'3.5") while Emily Schaub took runner-up in the Women's High Jump with a height of 1.60m (5'3"). 

Alex Hugh-Plott once again dominated the Men's High Jump with a mark of 2.10m (6'10.75") while Romario Jackson finished second overall in the Men's Discus with a heave of 50.22m (164'9").

Oakland will see a majority of individuals go to the Bison Outdoor Classic on the campus of Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania April 14-15 while a handful of athletes will compete in Gainesville, Florida the same dates as part of the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational hosted by the University of Florida.
