ANN ARBOR, Mich. – On Friday, Oakland University Tennis was defeated by No. 3 seed Chicago State University in the first round of the 2023 #HLTennis Tournament in Ann Arbor.

After the Cougars took the first of three doubles games, the combination of Isabelle Popma and Emma Hulqvist bounced back with a 6-2 victory in the No. 3 spot while Nirva Patel and Yazmin Glazbrook locked up the doubles point for OU in the No. 1 hole 6-4.

Oakland went 1-1 in the opening two matches of singles play with a No. 6 victory via Hulqvist 4-6, 6-2, and 6-3. Chicago State responded by clinching the next two matches in No. 2 and No. 4 to take the 3-2 lead.

Glazbrook reigned victorious in the No. 1 spot in three sets after going down 6-1 in the first, responding with a 7-6 (7-5 tiebreaker) and 6-3 rally.

Tied at 3-3 all heading into the anticipation of the final match, the Cougars took the winning point in the No. 3 singles position on the third set, ending the Golden Grizzlies' chances of advancing in the #HLTennis Tournament.
