Campbell Throws Third Shutout, Team Splits Doubleheader

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa– Oakland University Softball wrapped up a #HLSB doubleheader on Thursday at the North Athletic Complex with a split following a stout, shutout game one performance.

GAME ONE // OAKLAND 3, ROBERT MORRIS 0

The first of the doubleheader started out well for the Golden Grizzlies as the first two outs went on the board quickly before a single by Jen Krizka and hit-by-pitch thrown to Reese Ruhlman put two runners on as Madi Herrington came up to the plate.

Herrington was walked to load the bases, clearing two runs across home plate via Leah Bieniewicz's two-RBI single to center field.

The Colonials bats could not get anything going throughout the seven innings as Sydney Campbell rang up seven strikeouts in 26 batters faced with only five hits.

The redshirt junior picked up her third shutout as a solo home run by Allisa DiPrima knocked the third and final run for the Golden Grizzlies en route to a #HLSB win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Campbell advances to 14-6 on the year
  • Freshman Kamryn Troyer went 2-3 at the plate with a double
  • Bieniewicz had a team-high two RBI, DiPrima with one (herself)
  • Ruhlman, technically, was perfect at the plate going 1-1 but was struck three times by a pitch from RMU

GAME TWO // ROBERT MORRIS 4, OAKLAND 3

Both teams got off to a sluggish start in the second game, though a throwing error by the Colonials' catcher allowed for Maci Brown to reach first off an attempted sac bunt with Troyer and Kayla Rodriguez on base, sending both of the freshmen home.

After a 2-0 lead in the top of the third, Robert Morris responded with all four of their runs coming in the bottom of the frame.

Ruhlman took to the plate and delivered her fourth home run of the season in the sixth as the Golden Grizzlies attempted to claw back into the game to no avail, splitting yet another doubleheader on the season in #HLSB play.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Maraina Smith sees her fifth loss of the season
  • Oakland out-hit Robert Morris 6-4, each team being credited with two errors
  • Ruhlman goes 1-2 with a walk, Herrington finished 1-2 plus Troyer at 1-3

The rubber match between the two teams is scheduled for Friday, April 28 at 1:00 pm with a standby date of Saturday, April 29 in case of inclement weather in the Moon Township area tomorrow.
