INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – In the conference's final edition of the weekly awards of the 2022-23 season, Oakland Golden Grizzlies point guard Brooke Quarles-Daniels was named the Nike #HLWBB Freshman of the Week on Sunday, February 26.

This is Quarles-Daniels' sixth time receiving the honor, tying her with Taylor Jones, who accomplished the feat in 2015-16, for the most by a Golden Grizzly since Oakland joined the Horizon League in 2013-14.

She is also the conference's first player in five years to win the Nike #HLWBB Freshman of the Week Award six times with IUPUI Jaguars standout Macee Williams, who went on to become a four-time Horizon League Player of the Year and 2022 WNBA Draft selection, last doing so in 2017-18.

Helping the Golden Grizzlies to a 2-1 record over the final week of the regular season, Quarles-Daniels began her week by hitting the game-winner with 4.5 seconds to play in a 66-65 victory over the rival Detroit Mercy Titans at the O'rena on Monday.

Playing the final two games of the regular season on the road, she followed this up with her third double-double of the year in a career-high 21-point, 10-rebound performance against the Wright State Raiders on Thursday and tallied 12 points, four assists, three steals and two boards in a 79-76 win over the Northern Kentucky Norse on Saturday.

For the season, Quarles-Daniels is Oakland's leading scorer at 12.1 points-per-game, a total that ties her for 11^th in the Horizon League and is tops among conference freshmen.

Finishing the regular season at 13-16 and 8-12 in conference play, Quarles-Daniels and the Golden Grizzlies earned the 8-seed in the 2023 Barbasol Horizon League Women's Basketball Tournament, which begins with first-round action at campus sites on Tuesday, February 28.

Oakland will host 9-seed Wright State (7-23, 6-14) in Tuesday's first-round at 7 p.m. The teams split the two regular season meetings, with each picking up a home victory.
