Day One of #HLTF Championships Conclude for Oakland with Podium Finishers

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Oakland University Men's and Women's Track & Field wrapped up day one of the 2023 #HLTF Indoor Championships in Fort Wayne, Indiana on the campus of Purdue Fort Wayne with a combined 23 points between the two sides. 

Grace Nolan finished third in the Women's 5,000m final in 17:19.89 for six points as reigning men's #HLXC champ Yami Albrecht took eighth for a single point on the men's side of the Men's 5,000m in 14:59.11.

A sixth-place finish by the Women's Distance Medley Relay added three more points to the Golden Grizzlies' total via Madeline Richman, Brooke Hinkelman, Olivia Rice, and Ellie Voetberg in 12:30.69.

Simari Finney took sixth in the Women's Long Jump with a distance of 5.57m as Alex Hugh-Plott made the Alfreeda Goff #HLTF Indoor Athlete of the Year's debut in the Men's Long Jump, picking up a single point with 6.89m. 

Romario Jackson highlighted the Men's Weight Throw for Oakland with a third-place, podium heave of 17.91m while his teammate, Blake Foster, finished in seventh with 16.64m.

Alexa Messina picked up a point in the Women's Pole Vault with a leap of 3.30m.

After a day of competition, Milwaukee leads the women's side with 80 points while Youngstown State dominates the men's with 97. The Oakland women are fifth out of nine scoring teams while the men are fourth out of eight with 13 and 10 points apiece, respectively.

Saturday was filled with preliminary action as multiple Golden Grizzlies will head to the finals on the last day of competition on Sunday, February 26.
