SAGINAW, Mich. - The Golden Grizzlies had a stellar start to its indoor season as the men's and women's track & field team wrapped up its meet at the SVSU Holiday Open inside the SVSU Fieldhouse today.
The team was off and running in its first meet of the season and saw 13 individuals place in the top five in their respective event. Included in those 13 were five members of the team that found themselves second at the end of the day. Along with the placements, seven Golden Grizzlies wrapped up the day with new personal bests.
In the oval, 
Justin Kudera ran all 400 meters in a time of 48.84, good for second place for the mens, while the Golden Grizzlies women had a strong showing in the 3000 meter race. 
Genavieve Kushner-Lopez, Mackenzie Lemke and
 Anne May all placed in the top-10 as Kushner-Lopez led the team with a time of 10:42.87 which was good for second overall. Lemke followed with a fifth-place finish, followed by May in ninth.
Ke'vina Finch sped to the finish line in the quick 60 meter dash and placed third (7.79) for the women, followed by 
Jaylin Washington close behind (7.91). On the men's side, 
Julian Bailey crossed the line in second with a time of 6.94. Bailey also had a great day in the 200 meter race and finished second with a total time of 22.07. In the 60 meter dash, but with hurdles, 
Kylei Anderson finished in the top-five with a final time of 9.06. 
Haileigh Bissett had a strong showing in the mile-long race and finished fourth with a mark of 5:29.96.
Anderson went from the track to the field as she placed fourth in the women high jump with a height of 1.58 meters. Staying on the field, this time on the men's side, 
Alex Mansfield and 
Romario Jackson both found themselves in the top-five of shot put, as Mansfield placed third (15.67 meters), followed by Jackson in fifth (14.75 meters).
Mansfield, Bailey (60 meter dash), Anderson (60 meter dash) and Finch all set personal bests at Saginaw Valley, while 
Jamie Giese (15.27 meters) and 
Blake Foster (17.37) both set personal records in weight throw. Rounding out the seven was 
Eddie Harrell III who ran his best mile with a time of 4:25.17.
 
Both teams are back in action next month as it returns to the SVSU Fieldhouse Friday, Jan. 19, in the SVSU Doug Hansen Open. Events are set to begin at 2 p.m. ET.
