Oakland Posts Shutout Win over Golden Flashes

KENT, Ohio – On Sunday, Oakland University Women's Soccer quelled the Kent State offense en route to a 2-0 shutout win at Dix Stadium in Kent, Ohio.

Goalkeeper Noemi Stadelmann was tested early, getting a hand off a solo Kent State shot to kickoff a solid showing for the fifth year out of Switzerland. In what would start off as a flash for both teams, it was Sami Lopez who would strike first with her first goal of the year at the 15:09 mark.

Stadelmann would then remain a staple between the pipes, taking two shots as the Golden Flashes' offense would threaten multiple times as Oakland would only get one more attempt off behind Macey Wierenga heading into the half.

Both teams would exchange blows coming out of the break while also putting in fresh legs as the squads would combine for 15 bench substitutions throughout the 90 minutes of play.

With less than six minutes remaining, Alexa Sabbagh would check in to connect with the ball off her right foot that would ricochet off the goalkeeper's gloves, bouncing over to the stride of Jules Karkaba to Sabbagh's right as the freshman would earn her paws and put the dagger on the board with a comfortable lead.

As time would expire and the whistles would blow after 90 minutes, Oakland looked up at the scoreboard with a 2-0 start to the season for the first time since 2014.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • Oakland totaled seven shots behind Kent State's 12 with five on goal to the home team's six
