For the first time since the 2014 season, the Oakland Men’s Soccer squad qualified for the NCAA Tournament with the Horizon League Regular Season and Tournament crown. Head Coach Eric Pogue was named the conference’s Coach of the Year as seven more Golden Grizzlies earned All-League honors. Noah Jensen was not only Horizon League Tournament MVP but also garnered Second Team All-America honors

The OU Women’s soccer team once again showed proficiency on the pitch and in the classroom. The team as a whole was awarded the United Soccer Coaches All-Academic award for the 11th straight year. As well as Kendra Zak, Alexa Sabbagh, Noemi Stadelmann being named to the #HLWSOC All-Academic team. Furthermore, Sami Lopez and Kendra Zak were named to the United Soccer Coaches Division 1 Women’s All-Region teams. To top it off, Kendra Zak earned prestigious 2021 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Women's Scholar All-Region second-team honors.

As the only Middle Hitter in the country to do so at the NCAA Division I level, Jessica Reidl recorded a triple double with 13 kills, 12 assists, and 10 digs. The program also welcomed Krista Rice as its new Head Coach.

The Women’s cross country team placed 1st in the Lansing Cross Country invite and placed second in the Horizon League Invite. Much like the Men’s team, the women also excelled off the course and were named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic list with Rachel Kempf being named to the Horizon League All-Academic team.

Jamal Cain was the standout player this season for OU Men’s Basketball squad. Cain garnered three Horizon League Player of the Week awards as well as being crowned the Horizon League Co-Player of the year. Furthermore, Cain would be named to the 2021-2022 Lou Henson All-America team and selected as a member of the Horizon League All-League First Team. To wrap up Cain’s collegiate career, he was signed as an undrafted free agent to the NBA’s Miami Heat. Cloverdale, Indiana native, Jalen Moore was named to the Horizon League All-League second team and Sophomore guard Blake Lampman was named a member of the 2022 Horizon League All-Academic team.

The OU Women’s Basketball team upset No. 2 seeded Youngstown State Penguins en route to a Keeps Horizon League Women’s Basketball Tournament appearance in Indianapolis.

The Men’s Swimming and Diving program continued their dominance over the Horizon League by winning their 9th consecutive Horizon League title. Oakland Head Coach Pete Hovland was named to the CSCAA’s 100 greatest coaches of the past century list. Academically, Christian Bart, Mack Flowers, Campbell Kolk, Andrew Bernsdorf, and Philip Dejonge were named to the Horizon League All-Academic team. 

Women’s swimming and diving were also crowned Horizon League champions for the ninth consecutive year. Individual swimmers: Taylor Bailey, Kiera Brough, Madelyn Cislo, and Susan LaGrand were named to the Horizon League’s All-Academic team.

The one-two punch of Maddi Leigh and Ashley Quinn broke the Women’s 800m school record at the Gladstein Invitational while Alexis Hunter broke the Women’s Triple Jump school record at the GVSU Meet.

The Men's Indoor team went on quite the run this season by breaking 10 school records in the shortened indoor season. Golden Grizzlies top sprinter, Jimmie Williams was named the Horizon League's Outstanding Performer for the 2022 indoor track and field season. Alex Hugh-Plott, Connor Goetz, Terrence Brooks Jr, and Ray Braziel are among other school record breakers from the 2022 indoor season.

With Horizon League Coach of the Year Lauren Karn at the helm, the Oakland Softball team made it back to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in program history this past season with #HLSB All-League First Team honoree and Tournament MVP Madison Jones dominating the plate played opposite of #HLSB Pitcher of the Year Sydney Campbell in the circle with a 1.77 earned run average. The Golden Grizzlies won the regular season conference title and swept their way to the Horizon League Tournament crown.

On the diamond this season, the OU baseball team made strides. The team made a 13-win improvement from the 2021 season to the 2022 season. Second year head coach Jordon Banfield was named #HLBASE Coach of the Year for the 2022 season. Brandon Nigh was named the #HLBASE Freshman of the year and eleccted to the #HLBASE All-League First team along with Brad Goulet. Seniors Brenton Phillips and Jared Miller were named to the #HLBASE All-League Second Team.

As the third team at Oakland to make a trek to the NCAA Tournament following Horizon League titles, the Women’s Golf team was selected to the Ann Arbor Regional as Amalia Shahzan won the #HLGOLF Individual Championship and earned Golfer of the Year. Women's head coach Alyssa Gaudio was named the #HLGOLF Coach of the Year.

For the first time in Oakland Golf history, Thomas Giroux paved the way for himself to participate in the 2022 NCAA National Championship after successful outings at the #HLGOLF Championship in Howey in the Hills, Florida and the NCAA Regional in Columbus, Ohio. Giroux then went on to the PING All-Region Team and PING All-American Honorable Mention honors.

• Giroux of Oakland men's golf was named to the Team Canada National Amateur Squad as announced by Golf Canada on Nov. 18

• Giroux has been named Nike® #HLGOLF Athlete of the Week as announced by the league x2
• Giroux finished the 2022 Horizon League Championships with a All-League First Team honor

More school records fell when the Men's track and field team transitioned to their outdoor season. Connor Goetz did what Connor Goetz does, and that is break school records. Goetz broke the 10,000m school record as well as won the 10,000m at the #HLTF Outdoor Championships. The Men's 4x400 relay team of Gabriel Singh, Justin Kudera, Terrence Brooks Jr, and Jimmie Williams set a new school record with a time of 3:09.87. Alex Hugh-Plott jumped his way into OU history yet again, this time by breaking the outdoor high jump record with a leap of 6ft,10.75in. Finally, Sophomore Trey Plitcha won the 3,000m steeplechase at the #HLTF Outdoor Championships with a time of 9:13.76.

More 800m school records fell in the outdoor portion of the track and field season as Maddi Leigh broke the Women's 800m outdoor school record with a time of 2:12.46. The Women's team would go on to place second overall at the #HLTF outdoor championship. Ellie Voetberg was named freshman of the year. Leigh, Rachel Kempf, and Grace Nolan were named to the 2022 #HLTF All-Academic team.

As one of the top-ranked Collegiate Rocket League teams in the world, the Golden Grizzlies upset Berlin Phoenix at the Collegiate Rocket League 2022 in Dallas after completing reverse sweeps of LSU and a win over Penn State.
