PLICHTA RUNS AWAY WITH STEEPLECHASE TITLE ON DAY TWO OF 2022 #HLTF OUTDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS

ROCHESTER, Mich. – Oakland University Track & Field's Trey Plichta outkicked the competition in the Men's 3000m Steeplechase to win the individual title as competition wrapped up on day two of the 2022 #HLTF Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday.

Plichta rounded out the second-to-last event of the day as the sophomore tucked in tight in second place for most of the seven and a half laps, kicking out to lane two and surpassing his opponent between 450-500 meters to go for the win as the only sophomore champion, currently, in 9:13.76.



Emily Schaub took fifth-overall in the Women's Heptathlon after completing all events with 4234 points as she also positioned herself fifth in the Women's Javelin at 35.25m. 

Romario Jackson heaved 15.16m for fifth-overall in the Men's Shot Put while Lauren Christian threw 13.69m in the Women's Shot Put for fifth as well. Alex Hugh-Plott lept for a distance of 6.85m in the Men's Long Jump for seventh.

In the only other final running event of the day, Olivia Updike rounded out the Women's 3000m steeplechase in third at 11:25.15 with her teammate, Jennifer Ohlsson, just behind in 11:36.32 in sixth-place. Chandler Lorf picked up two points as well in the Men's 3000m Steeplechase in seventh at 10:02.69.

Both teams are still third in the standings on each side with one more day of competition. Friday was filled with preliminary rounds of events on the track advanced multiple Golden Grizzly athletes to the finals on Sunday.

Day three will get underway at noon tomorrow with the final day of competition at the Elaine Leigh Track & Field Complex.
