OAKLAND ADVANCES TO #HLSB CHAMPIONSHIP WITH 3-1 WIN

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio. – For the second-straight season, Oakland University Softball advances to the Horizon League Championship game

In the top of the first, Oakland would start off with an error to get the first batter on base off the first pitch as Reese Ruhlman would grab a solid hit up the middle to get the tagout for the Golden Grizzlies' first out of the game. OU would commit one more error but no harm was done to the scoreboard for Oakland.

Cammie Brummitt would extend her hitting streak to five games after getting a one out single down the third base line. Two-straight walks would load the bases as the Golden Grizzlies would be put out twice to retire the side.

NKU would get a leadoff hit in the top of the second but Sydney Campbell would get two-straight strikeouts to set up an easy grounder to short to put the Golden Grizzlies up to bat. Oakland would get nothing out of the inning as the Norse went through the third with Campbell starting off with a strikeout followed by a groundout to third and a grounder to Campbell.

Oakland would go three up and down to finish the third, bringing up the Norse once again. NKU would do much of the same behind Campbell's two strikeouts as the game moved along to the bottom of the fourth frame.

Maci Brown fired off with a single to center field, moving over to third off the bat of Allisa DiPrima who doubled to right center off the first pitch she saw. Shannon Carr then would lay down a bunt that went into the glove of the third baseman, who attempted to tag Brown but the sophomore would finagle her way past the glove for the score and the 1-0 lead.

The Norse would once again go up and down bringing Brummitt up to the plate in the bottom of the fifth ahead of an NKU pitching change. With two outs, Jen Krizka doubled to right center only to be brought home off the ensuing bat of Munson for the RBI as Brown would double to bring her home for the 3-0 lead.

In the bottom of the sixth, Carr would get a leadoff single to shortstop as three-straight batters would go down as the game would go on the wire to the final three outs for the Norse. After two-straight ground outs to Madison Jones, one final groundout to Munson would advance the Golden Grizzlies to the championship match.
