GOLDEN GRIZZLIES SWEEP METRO SERIES ON THE DIAMOND

ROCHESTER, Mich. – Oakland University Softball completed a Horizon League sweep of rival Detroit Mercy Sunday afternoon by the same score for the first sweep of the Titans since 2015.

GAME ONE, OAKLAND 7-DETROIT MERCY 2

Lauren Griffith would bring in Madison Jones off her leadoff walk for an RBI double for the 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first as the Titans would get nothing going in the second while the Golden Grizzlies would go three up and three down in that frame with the 1-0 edge.

UDM would get a run, however, for the first time in the series to tie things up before Allisa DiPrima would single in the leadoff spot at the bottom of the third ahead of Jones' single to left field as Cammie Brummitt would single through the left side. A hit from Griffith would fly under the Detroit Mercy shortstop's glove for an error that would allow two runs to score to go up 3-1 as Shannon Carr's fielder's choice would bring on the final, third run of the inning.

The Titans' offense would stall until the top of the fifth as an RBI single to center field brought in one more run to close Oakland's lead to two where the score would stay until Maci Brown's RBI single to center brought home Madi Herrington in the bottom of the sixth as Jones would homer to center field for the 7-2 game one win.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • Jones went 2-3 from the plate with two RBI and three runs to her credit
  • Mia Konyvka gets her third win of the year to improve to 3-2 as Sydney Campbell gets credit with the save, coming in in the sixth inning

Griffith doubled to right center in her return to the defensive lineup for two RBI in the bottom of the third to bring home Allisa DiPrima and Reese Ruhlman for the tie at 2-2. On the subsequent at bat, Jen Krizka grounded out to first base but brought home Jones to retake the lead as Carr's single to shortstop would bring home another at the conclusion of the stanza for a 4-2 edge.

Brummitt smacked a home run to right center field to bring DiPrima around the bases at 6-2 in the bottom of the fourth as the Golden Grizzlies would get their seventh run in the bottom of the sixth with a Jones walk, scoring off an error by the Titans' second baseman to make things 7-2.
