KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Previously receiving All-North Region recognition from the organization earlier in the month, Oakland Golden Grizzlies senior midfielder
Ville Ahola continued to be honored for his efforts both in the classroom and on the field by being named a United Soccer Coaches Third Team Scholar All-American on Thursday, December 15.
Among the 33 student-athletes selected to the three Scholar All-American Teams, Ahola was the lone Horizon League representative and one of just four players from the State of Michigan, joining a trio of Western Michigan Bronco seniors in Eric Conerty, Daniel Nimick and Charlie Sharp.
A native of Jarvenpaa, Finland who played his freshman campaign with the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights in 2019, Ahola has started all 41 matches he has appeared in as a Golden Grizzly over the last three seasons, racking up 18 points (five goals, eight assists) over this span.
Majoring in Exercise Science and owning a 3.83 grade point average, Ahola was selected as a First Team All-Horizon League honoree in 2022, which came on the heels of a Second Team spot the year prior.
Voted on by a five-member committee, student-athletes were required to own at least 3.5 GPA, have completed one year at the current academic institution, and have appeared in at least 50 percent of their team's contests to be eligible for Scholar All-American consideration.
