Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Jordyn Berg

Oakland Dominates in convincing #HLWSOC win

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Oakland Women's Soccer team went head-to-head with Cleveland State Thursday night in #HLWSOC action resulting in a 1-0 win which leaves their new season record at 4-2-7.

Sami Lopez was the first to take a shot at the goal at the 11 minute point in the first half for the Golden Grizzlies but her on-target attempt didn't make it past the hands of the Vikings goalie. Nevertheless, that didn't stop the Golden Grizzlies from continuing to charge the net in the first half because we saw two other shot attempts by both Lopez again, and Carmela Barro to keep the Vikings on their toes. Then, in just under the first three minutes of a fiery second half, Sophie Wilsey makes an impressively timely goal with an assist from Sydney Grodsinksy to put the Golden Grizzlies on the board. This set an extremely energetic tone for the remainder of the half as we saw another shot attempt by Wilsey herself, along with an attempt from Macey Wierenga, and a final attempt from Jayna Fraser to cap off the second half.

Noëmi Stadelmann defended the net for the full game tonight for the Golden Grizzlies with a total of three saves. Overall, the Golden Grizzly defense didn't allow the Vikings hardly any opportunities to score, leaving them without a chance to get on the board for an Oakland win.

Inside the numbers
  • Wilsey makes an impressive goal to start the second half
  • Oakland outshot the Vikings 7-6 during the course of the game
  • Stadelmann recorded three saves while in the net
