GREEN BAY, Wis. – Neither squad could break through for that elusive goal as the Oakland Golden Grizzlies and Green Bay Phoenix played to a scoreless draw in a matinee match on Wednesday, October 12 at Aldo Santaga Stadium.
With the tie, Oakland moves to 2-7-3 (2-1-2) and remains in third place in the Horizon League with eight points. The Phoenix are now 5-4-5 (1-1-3), good enough to even them up with the Detroit Mercy Titans for fifth in the league at six points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Green Bay doubled up the Golden Grizzlies on shots, 8-4, while Oakland had twice as many corner kicks, 6-3.
The fouls were nearly even, with the Golden Grizzlies being whistled for nine and the Phoenix eight.
MATCH NOTES
- Oakland tallied three shots in the first 45 minutes, but just one in the second half
- One Golden Grizzly (redshirt junior Owen Smith) and two Green Bay student-athletes (Luca Contestabile and Tommy Coughlin, both of whom are freshmen) were given yellow cards
- Coughlin would collect a red card in the 90th minute, approximately 16 minutes after receiving his yellow
- This match was Green Bay's Pride Day, recognizing members of the LGBTQ Community
- Wednesday's draw brings the all-time series between these two programs to 10-1-1 in Oakland's favor

Part of the program's yearlong Celebration of 50 Years of Oakland Soccer, the Golden Grizzlies will return home to battle the Wright State Raiders in their Homecoming Match on Saturday, October 15 at 1 p.m.
Owning a record of 4-3-4 (4-0-2), Wright State currently sits atop the league standings.
