FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Macey Wierenga capitalized on a penalty kick early in the first half to score her second goal of the season to guide the Oakland women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Purdue Fort Wayne Sunday afternoon.
Wierenga was fouled in the box at the 7:06 mark, resulting in a PK opportunity. The junior took advantage giving the Golden Grizzlies an early 1-0 lead.
Sunday's victory marks the third-straight win and shutout for the Golden Grizzlies to remain unbeaten in league play. In the last three outings, Oakland has outscored its opponents 10-0.
Noëmi Stadelmann had another solid showing in goal, making four saves, including a big one down the stretch to keep the game in the Golden Grizzlies' favor in 90 minutes for the Black and Gold.
Oakland (4-7-1, 3-0-1 HL) returns home to the Oakland Soccer Field Saturday, Oct. 2 against IUPUI. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. and will broadcast on ESPN+/3.
