INDIANAPOLIS Ind. - Alessio Carbone made the most of his first career collegiate start in goal as the freshman recorded a shutout making three saves off 15 shots faced helping Oakland play Butler to a 0-0 double-overtime draw on Thursday night at the Sellick Bowl to open the 2021 Fall season.
Dylan Borczak led Oakland with three shots followed by two from
Ville Ahola.
Both teams stood tall on set pieces defensively as they combined for 27 corner kicks with Butler holding an 18-9 advantage.
In the 26th minute, the Golden Grizzlies dodged a bullet as Butler's Wilmer Cabrera missed a penalty kick sending the ball high over the crossbar.
After Butler went down to 10 men due to a red card in the 86th minute, Oakland's best chance to capitalize came in the second overtime during the 106th minute. Borczak took a loose ball and fired a shot just inside the 18-yard line that beat Butler goalkeeper Gabriel Gjergji but rang of the crossbar denying him the game-winning golden goal.
