ROCHESTER, Mich. — The Oakland University softball program swept its Horizon League doubleheader from the Green Bay Phoenix on Friday, April 2, at the Oakland Softball Field. The Golden Grizzlies earned a 4-2 come-from-behind win in the opener and followed with a commanding 8-1 victory in game two.
Game 1: Green Bay 2, Oakland 4
The Golden Grizzlies trailed 2-0 into the bottom of the fourth inning but scored four unanswered runs to edge the Phoenix by a score of 4-2 in the series opener.
Sophomore
Sydney Campbell (7-2) picked up the complete-game win for Oakland (10-8, 9-5 HL). The right-hander gave up two runs, both of them in the opening frame, on six hits, allowing two walks and striking out season-high five batters. From the second inning on, she limited the Phoenix offense to a mere two hits.
Offensively, the Golden Grizzlies were led by senior
Shannon Carr, who delivered a three-run double in the fourth inning. The at-bat marked the first of the 2021 season for Carr. Junior
Madison Jones put together a standout effort as well, going 1-for-2 with a double and a walk. Senior
Rachel Zerona also contributed for Oakland, putting together a team-high two hits in three trips to the plate.
Green Bay (14-10, 9-7 HL) started hot with two runs on four hits in the first inning. Meanwhile, the OU offense was held to no runs on two hits through three innings of play.
The Golden Grizzlies got things going in the bottom of the fourth inning with four runs on five hits and an error. Carr punctuated the output with a bases-clearing, three-run double to score

Jessie Munson, and
Allisa DiPrima.
The score remained 4-2 for the rest of the game, as the Golden Grizzlies held on for the win.
Game 2: Green Bay 1, Oakland 8
Oakland took a 2-1 lead in the first inning and never trailed for the remainder of the contest en route to an 8-1 victory over Green Bay in the Friday rematch.
Freshman
Gracey Henckel (1-1) earned her first collegiate win, as she pitched a complete game, giving up just one run on seven hits, allowing no walks, and punching out a season-high four batters. The native of Topinabee, Mich., gave up a run on three hits in the first inning but bounced back with six-straight scoreless frames in the circle.
Jones paced the OU offense by going 2-for-4 with a triple, stolen base, and two RBI. Junior
Lauren Griffith batted 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI while
Cammie Brummitt also helped out with two doubles in four trips to the plate. Cleanup hitter
Jen Krizka contributed with a double and two RBI as well.
The Golden Grizzlies fell behind 1-0 in the first inning but responded with two runs in the bottom half of the frame. Jones' run-scoring single highlighted the two-run spurt.
The Phoenix failed to push any runs across before the Golden Grizzlies built on their lead in the third inning. OU turned a costly error by the Phoenix into two runs, which brought the score to 4-1 in favor of the Golden Grizzlies.
Oakland kept Green Bay scoreless before building their lead to 8-1 in the fifth inning. The quartet of Brummitt, Jones, Griffith, and Krizka powered the four-run inning with four extra-base hits in a row.
The Golden Grizzlies coasted the rest of the way to clinch the 8-1 win.
