ROCHESTER, Mich. - Mia Melnizki outlasted Anna Daniel Fuentes, 7-5, 7-6 (7-3) at the No. 3 singles match as Oakland put up a battle in singles play before falling 6-1 to visiting Milwaukee to close out the home schedule on Sunday.
After dropping the doubles point, Melnizki set the tone winning for the third time in her last four singles matches. The Golden Grizzlies responded pushing three matches to three sets but was not able to get a win in any of them. At the No. 2 spot,
Nirva Patel took the first set before falling to Mayya Perova, 6-3, 3-6, 8-10.
Emma Hultqvist also won the first set before falling, 6-0, 3-6,2-6, to Anika Tylek at the No. 5 position. Finally, Joëlle Tabernal took the second set but fell to Nikki Milner, 1-6, 6-4, 0-6 at No. 4.
Due to a shortened roster consisting of only five student-athletes this season, Oakland has to start each competition with a forfeit at the No. 3 doubles position and an additional forfeit at the No. 6 singles position.
Oakland concludes the season at UIC with a pair of dual matches starting on Saturday, Apr. 24 at 10 a.m. ET.
