WOMEN TAKE SECOND, MEN FINISH THIRD AT CROSS COUNTRY HORIZON LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIPS

Maryam Sheena earns Freshman of the Year and First Team All-Conference Honors.

CARMEL, Ind. --
The Oakland women's cross country team finished second while the men's finished third at the 2021 Horizon League Championships. Rachel Kempf led the way for the women, taking third-place with a time of 22:04.2 and earning her first team All-Conference honors, while Connor Goetz took eighth place (25:46) for the men and earned second team All-Conference honors. Maryam Sheena took sixth place (22:45.2) making her the top freshman in the Horizon League to earn Freshman of the Year and first team All-Conference honors.

The Oakland women tallied 58 points and fell to Milwaukee due to a tie-breaker. While Milwaukee also had 58 points, the top first though fifth place runners of each team were compared head-to-head with the Panthers totaling three of the five finishes, making them the 2021 Horizon League champions.  

Megan Nichols finished in 12th place (23:08.1) followed by Ashley Vican in 14th (23:14.8), to secure second-team All-Conference Honors. 

Colin Kane finished in 10th place with a time of 26:12.6, picking up Second-Team All-Conference Honors as well. The Oakland men totaled 90 points.
