
YPSILANTI, Mich. - Yasmin Glazbrook defeated Vasavi Ganesan in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4, at the No. 2 singles position and also notched a 6-4 win with
Nirva Patel at the No. 1 doubles spot over Isabelle Popma and Julia Piatek as Oakland dropped a pair of matches, 6-1, 6-1, at Eastern Michigan on Friday at the Chippewa Club.
Emma Hultqvist also secured a three set 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 win over Grace Whitney at the No. 5 singles spot.
Due to a shortened roster this season, Oakland has to start each competition with a forfeit at the No. 3 doubles position and an additional forfeit at the No. 6 singles position.
Match 1:
After dropping the doubles point, Glazbrook gave Oakland (0-4) its lone point with her win at the No. 2 position. Hultqvist pushed Piatek before falling in two tough sets, 6-4, 7-5 at the No. 5 spot. However, EMU secured the other singles wins to claim the match.
Match 2:
Glazbrook and Patel's win at No. 1 doubles gave the Golden Grizzlies a shot but EMU was able to secure a 6-2 win at the No.2 sport earning the doubles point due to the automatic forfeit at the No. 3 position.
Hultqvist's win at the No. 5 spot accounted for Oakland's only point. Glazbrook put up a battle at the No. 1 position before falling in three sets to Pompa, 7-6, 2-6, 1-0. The Eagles went on to win the other four singles matches in straight sets.
Oakland travels to Kalamazoo, Mich, for a dual match at Western Michigan on Sunday, Feb. 3 at 3 p.m.
