OAKLAND VOLLEYBALL RECEIVES AVCA TEAM ACADEMIC AWARD FOR 2019-20

AVCA

LEXINGTON, Ky.
-- For the eighth time in school history the Oakland University Volleyball team earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for the 2019-20 academic year. The Golden Grizzlies posted a team grade point average (GPA) of 3.53 for the year.

"I am thrilled for our team to receive this honor from the AVCA and the Marine Corps," said Head Coach Rob Beam. "Given the challenges our student-athletes faced in the second semester with the transition to online classes, they achieved beyond expectations. Our players continue to deliver on our program's commitment to comprehensive success."

Oakland was one of 227 Division I teams to earn the award as the AVCA announced a record 1,313 teams across the collegiate and high school levels received the honor. The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team GPA on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
