Oakland University softball fell to Northwestern on the final day of the Red & Black Challenge, 14-3, in five innings.

ROCHESTER, Michigan - Oakland University softball fell behind early to Northwestern on Sunday, March 8, on the final day of the Red & Black Challenge at Ulmer Stadium on the campus of the University of Louisville. Freshman Jen Krizka was a bright spot in the five-inning affair, going 3-of-3 with a double and RBI.

Krizka and sophomore Hannah Chadwell both connected for a double in the outing.

Redshirt sophomore Madison Jones was one of three Golden Grizzlies to score - Jones had two stolen bases in the effort.

Freshman Sydney Campbell had pitched six-straight complete games heading into today's contest. Campbell gave up four earned runs on six hits in the first two innings of play. It was the first outing for the freshman without recording a strikeout.

Junior Chelsea Wiggins came in during the third inning, surrendering eight earned on five hits. She walked three and struck out a pair of Wildcats.

Northwestern scored in every inning it came to bat - ending the game in the top of the fifth with a pair of looking strikeouts.

Trailing 6-0 in the top of the third, Krizka opened the side with a double to left center. After sophomore Sidney Rayba looked ball four in, Chadwell took advantage of her lone at bat and drove both runners into score on her second double of the season.

The Wildcats responded in the bottom of the frame with four more runs, extending Oakland's deficit to 10-2. With two out in the fourth, Jones found a gap on the right side of the defense for a single. She stole second and came home off a Krizka single.

Northwestern posted for more tallies in the fourth to round out the scoring at 14-3.

The Golden Grizzlies have one more tournament before starting conference play. Next weekend, Oakland takes on Belmont and Murray State at the Murray State Tournament in Murray, Kentucky.
