OAKLAND SOFTBALL WINS THIRD STRAIGHT, BRUMMITT SOLOS FOR GAME-WINNER

Oakland University softball concluded play at the Citrus Classic with a 3-2 victory over Stetson.

ROCHESTER, Michigan - Redshirt sophomore Cammie Brummitt's first home run of the year would be the difference in Oakland University softball's 3-2 victory over Stetson on Sunday, February 23, in the Citrus Classic at the ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Florida.

Brummitt's lone hit of the day was a solo shot to centerfield in the sixth. The redshirt sophomore leads the team after nine games with 13 hits.

Redshirt sophomore Maddie Jones was the lone Golden Grizzly to have a multi-hit day. Jones went 2-for-3. Freshman Jen Krizka recorded her first collegiate extra base hit, scoring two runners.

Freshman Sydney Campbell went to 4-0 on the season with her fourth complete game. Campbell struck out five and gave up zero earned on seven hits. The LaGrange, Ohio, native leads the team with 30 strikeouts in 35 innings of work.

Oakland struck first in the top of the opening frame. A walk and single brought Krizka to the plate. She connected for a double to left center to put the Golden Grizzlies up 2-0.

The Hatters posted a tally in both the third and fourth innings before Oakland found the game-winner in the sixth. With no one on and one out, Brummitt sent her fourth extra base hit over the centerfield wall.

Stetson put one on base to kickoff the bottom of the seventh, but Campbell forced a pair of ground outs and recorded a strikeout to end the outing.

Oakland returns on Friday, February 28, for a pair of games at the Spartan Classic in Greensboro, North Carolina. The Golden Grizzlies will play Dayton and Appalachian State to kick off a four-game weekend.
