
DAY 1 RESULTS
ROCHESTER, Mich. – The 2020 Horizon League Swimming and Diving Championship began Wednesday evening at the Oakland Aquatic Center with the Golden Grizzlies taking an early lead in the championships standings. Oakland broke three conference records, starting with the women's 200 medley relay, followed with the men's and women's 800 freestyle relay records.
The women's 200 medley relay team of
Grace Shinske,
Sydney McDowell,
Susan LaGrand and
Katie Colwell took the top spot in a time of 1:38.75, setting a new Horizon League and school record.Shinske, McDowell and Colwell were a part of the relay team holding the previous school and league record, alongside teammate
Holly Morren with a time of 1:39.47 set in 2018.
On the men's side, the 200 medley relay team of
Marko Khotynetskyi,
Ryan Geheb,
Mack Flowers and
Christian Bart to a first place finish in a time of 1:26.10, tying the school record.
The Golden Grizzlies dominated inthe 800 freestyle relay starting with the women's squad of
Sohvi Nenonen,
Emily Aycock,
Kiera Brough and LaGrand finishing in 7:16.76, a Horizon League record.
On the men's side,
Marko Khotynetskyi,
Danylo Hrebelnyi,
Ben Davis and
Rudy Aguilar set the Horizon League and school record with a time of 6:26.60.
In the women's three meter diving,
Bernie Turchi finished fourth with a score of 238.15, wile
Angelique Wise placed seventh (237.5).
Competition will resume tomorrow with preliminary action beginning at 10 a.m., and finals starting at 5:30 p.m. The finals will be streamed on ESPN3.
