ROCHESTER, Mich. – Oakland University Athletics has announced the Tom Ford Athletic Training Center Endowment.
On Friday, Jan. 24, Ford was inducted into the Oakland Athletics Hollie L. Lepley Hall of Honor. At the induction ceremony the new Tom Ford Athletic Training Center Endowment was officially announced with all proceeds from the endowment supporting athletic medicine.
Once the endowment goal of $150,000 is achieved through gifts and pledges, Oakland Athletics will permanently name the Athletic Training Center space in honor of Ford.
Once established, the endowment will provide annual support at 4.5% of the total value, which will be used by the athletic training staff for Oakland student-athletes and their needs.
Ford spent 30 years at Oakland providing outstanding treatment to thousands of student-athletes during his tenure.
Ford announced in May 2017 he would be stepping away from his duties due to being diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), commonly known as Lou Gehrig's Disease.
