
ROCHESTER, Mich. - For the second consecutive game, the big three combination of
Autumn Kissman,
Jalisha Terry and
Kahlaijah Dean each reached double figures combining for 49 points to lead Oakland to a 78-62 win over Milwaukee on Saturday to complete the weekend sweep in Horizon League play. Kissman posted her second straight double-double with 13 points and a career-high 14 rebounds while Terry added a game-high 19 points followed by Dean with 17 points.
Kayla Luchenbach also added 10 points as the win marked the first time Oakland defeated both Green Bay and Milwaukee at home since the 2016-17 season. This quartette of players also combined to grab 30 of Oakland's (8-8, 3-2 HL) 38 rebounds.
Brianna Breedy and
Breanne Beatty each chipped in with eight and six points respectively. Oakland used a pair of 10-2 runs to open the third and fourth quarters to keep Milwaukee (5-11, 2-3 HL) at bay which proved to be the difference. Despite Milwaukee playing a zone defense for a majority of the game, Oakland was able to shoot a season-high 48.4 percent (30-for-62) which marked the second consecutive game the Golden Grizzlies shot over 40 percent from the field. Defensively, the Golden Grizzlies tallied 14 points off of 11 Milwaukee turnovers while holding the Panthers to just 3-for-21 (14.3%) from behind the arc.
Dean hit back-two-back 3-point hoops followed by a buckets from Luchenbach and Beatty that capped off the second 10-2 run to open the fourth pushing Oakland's lead to 68-55. The Golden Grizzlies held off the Panthers down the stretch en route to the win.
Oakland opened up the third quarter with the first 10-2 run to move ahead by 14 points at 45-31. The Golden Grizzlies were able to maintain an eight point lead, 56-48, despite being outscored 17-11 down the stretch to end the frame.
Both teams played an evenly matched first quarter each scoring 19 points. In the second quarter, Oakland outscored Milwaukee 35-29 as Terry connected on a fast-break layup off a turnover just before time expired for her 14th point to give the Golden Grizzlies a 35-29 lead heading into the locker room.
Oakland continues its home stand with a game against Youngstown State on Thursday, Jan. 18 at 7 p.m.
