OAKLAND'S COMEBACK EFFORT COMES UP SHORT AT TOLEDO

The Golden Grizzlies recorded three second half goals

TOLEDO, Ohio – 
The Oakland women's soccer team netted three goals in the second half in an impressive comeback effort that came up just short Thursday night against Toledo as the Golden Grizzlies fell to the Rockets, 4-3 from Paul Hotmer Field.
 
The teams entered halftime deadlocked at 0-0, but less than 10 minutes into the second half, Toledo (1-3-0) scored to go up 1-0.
 
The Rockets added another goal just four minutes later in the 59th minute.
 
Sami Lopez answered with her third goal of the season at the 62:45 mark off an assist from Natalie Abbate to pull Oakland (2-1-1) within one. 
 
Toledo answered right back scoring in the 67th minute to go up 3-1.  
 
Senior Taylor Thalheimer connected on her first goal of the year from Ashley Postma to move Oakland within one midway through the second half.
 
Alexa Sabbagh netted the equalizer and her third goal of the year off an assist from Jessica Shears, the first of her career, to tie things back up at 3-3 at the 71:02 mark.
 
With less than a minute and a half to play, Toledo scored the game winner to go up 4-3.
 
The Golden Grizzlies welcome Notre Dame to the Oakland Soccer Field Sunday, Sept. 8 at 4 p.m. in its annual Childhood Cancer Awareness game, the match will be broadcast on ESPN+. 
 
Sunday's game will serve as a drop off location for the Student Athlete Advisory Committee's (SAAC) crayon drive in an effort to collect new crayons for patients in local children's hospitals. Fans are encouraged to wear gold and bring a box of new crayons.
