ROCHESTER, Mich. –Oakland University Athletics is excited to announce current renovations to the Oakland Baseball Field.
"The improvements being made to the baseball field will directly enhance our student-athletes' overall experience by allowing us to utilize our space more effectively in training, and more importantly be able to play more home games in the spring," Head Coach
Colin Kaline said.
One of the more noticeable projects fans will see this season is the Installation of a retractable batter's eye system to improve visibility for the student-athletes. The unique system can be raised or lowered within minutes to help extend the life of the system, and be more apt to hold up to harsh Michigan winters.
In order to assist and improve the drainage of the field, a tile drain system has been installed in the outfield. Topography and laser grading of infield, mound, and batters box for proper slope, drainage, and playability.
Additionally, 85 tons of specialized infield mix and top-dressing used in most Major League Baseball stadiums has been laid.
"While we certainly have our challenges for all of our spring sports when it comes to Michigan weather, we hope these improvements will elevate the Oakland baseball program and enable us to play more games on our home field," Assistant AD for Facilities
Andy Adrianse said.
The baseball field is expected to re-open in mid to late September, just in time for fall baseball.
