"I'm very excited about our upcoming schedule and the challenge it brings," Head Coach
Pete Hovland said. "I believe it to be well balanced and highly competitive."Â
Fans can get their first look at the Golden Grizzlies at this year's alumni meet, Saturday, Sept. 14 at 3:30 p.m. Oakland will also host its annual Black and Gold meet Friday, Oct. 4 at 6:30 p.m.
Â
"With us hosting our Conference Championship this year a number of our League opponents will be traveling to OU so we'll have a chance to see what we are up against right from the start," Hovland said. "Also, with the addition of two Big Ten schools and numerous conference champions from around the Midwest I think we have positioned ourselves well."Â
The defending Horizon League champions will host five meets this season against league foes beginning with Milwaukee (10/11). Oakland welcomes UIC (11/2) and Green Bay (11/16) in the month of November and closes out the regular season when IUPUI (1/24) and Cleveland State (1/25) visit the Oakland Aquatic Center. The Golden Grizzlies' meet against Cleveland State will serve as senior day.
Â
The Golden Grizzlies non-conference home meets include the Golden Grizzly Relays (10/12) and a match up against Northwestern on Friday, Nov. 1 at 6 p.m.. Oakland will host its annual Parent's weekend Nov. 1-2.
Â
Additionally, Oakland will host the USA Michigan Open Feb. 7-9.
Â
"The months of February and March will be here before we know it and I think this schedule will put us in the proper position to compete for another Horizon League title, compete with the top teams at the CSCAA NIT, and possibly qualify someone for NCAA's," Hovland said.Â
Oakland, winners of six-straight Horizon League titles, will host the league championships Feb. 19-22.
