Haney, Sanders, and Soldatke take home #HLSD Awards

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Following the Golden Grizzly Classic held at Oakland, the league has announced Max Haney, Victoria Sanders, and Lydia Soldatke as the #HLSD Athletes of the Week for December 3-9.

Junior Max Haney earns his first #HLSD Men's Swimmer of the Week this year after heavily contributing to Oakland's top performances and success at the first annual Golden Grizzly Classic. He excelled in the backstroke events, winning the 200 back with his time of 1:43.16 and finishing fourth in the 100 back (47.79).

Haney swam the backstroke leg in the 400 medley relay as well, helping Oakland's A team secure second place with a time of 3:10.60. Other notable performances from Haney include a second-place 200 IM finish (1:46.45) and a second-place finish in the 800 free relay (6:30.09).

Victoria Sanders picks up her second #HLSD Women's Diver of the Week award this season. The senior was crowned the 1-meter dive champion at the Golden Grizzly Classic with a score of 284.65 points and placed third in the 3-meter dive (281.10), finishing just behind divers from Dartmouth.

For the third time this season, freshman Lydia Soldatke secured the #HLSD Women's Swimmer of the Week award. Taking home two event titles, Soldatke won the 100 back in 53.56 and the 200 back in 1:56.03 at the Golden Grizzly Classic. During the 200 back, she broke her own pool record, swimming just 0.06 seconds faster than the record she previously set against Cincinnati and Purdue in November.

Soldatke also contributed in the 200 medley and 400 medley, swimming the backstroke legs that helped Oakland's A team earn third (1:41.78) and fourth place (3:46.01), respectively. Other top results include a second-place finish in the 400 free relay (3:20.56) and a fourth-place finish for Oakland's B team in the 800 free relay (7:28.49).

With the conclusion of their midseason invite, Oakland starts to look towards conferences and taking home the championship once again. Both teams will resume competition after the holiday break, hosting Miami (OH) and Denison at the OU Aquatic Center starting January 9.
