
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Golden Grizzlies (11-24, 4-10 HL) went into nine innings to take one win from the IUPUI Jaguars. Oakland won game two by a score of 10-9 while dropping game one 7-1.
In game one of the day, Oakland got down early as IUPUI hit a one run home run in the bottom of the second inning before adding two more runs in the third and one in the fourth.
Oakland scored their one run of the game in the top of the sixth as
Jamie Squires led off the inning with a double to left center.
Mikayela Marciniak singled behind her, allowing Squires to score. That would be the only scoring Oakland would see as Jags added three runs of their own in the sixth.
Hayley Bartholomew (3-4) pitched 3.0 innings giving up eight hits and three earned runs. She recorded one strikeout.
The Oakland bats came alive in game two of the evening as they recorded 15 hits as a team, putting up 10 runs.
Jamie Squires led off the top of the second inning doubling to right center.
Shannon Carr hit a sac fly over to right which allowed Squires to tag up and move to third and eventually cross home plate on a
Lauren Griffith single down the left field line.
Carr led off the fifth inning with a double before
Lauren Griffith recorded her second hit of the day, singling to second base.
Rachel Zerona picked up an RBI as she singled to left, scoring Carr.
Jessie Munson then put the ball in play, bringing in another run as she reached on a fielder's choice.
Mikayela Marciniak singled through the middle bringing in one more run for Oakland in the fifth frame. Their three runs scored in the fifth would tie the game at four.
After giving three runs back to IUPUI the Golden Grizzlies would rally in the top of the seventh scoring four runs on four hits.
Jessie Munson picked up an RBI in the inning before
Jamie Squires would rope a three run home run to left field, putting her team up one going into the bottom of the seventh. Squires leads the team with six long balls this season.
In the top of the eighth,
Lauren Griffith would lead off the inning with her third home run of the season but she was the only run Oakland could score. Oakland would seal the deal in the ninth inning as Marciniak reached on error before Squires would lay down a perfect sac bunt moving her over.
Shannon Carr hit a single to right center, scoring Marciniak who would be the go ahead run.
The Oakland pitchers would hold IUPUI in the bottom of the ninth to complete the win.
The Golden Grizzlies will travel to Central Michigan Tuesday, Apr. 16 to play a doubleheader against the Chippewas at 2 & 4 p.m.
