

ELON, N.C. – In the first game of the day against Lafayette, Oakland jumped on the board first thanks to an RBI single by
Brittney Miller, scoring
Jessie Munson. Still in the first inning,
Jamie Squires singled to second base, advancing to second base on the throw which allowed both
Shannon Carr and
Mikayela Marciniak to score.
In the top of the second inning,
Kelsie Swanson smashed her second triple of the season to right center to score
Kayla Gibson.
Oakland continued to roll in the third inning as
Brittney Miller led off with her first homer of the season over the left field fence followed by a single to center from
Shannon Carr.
Kayla Gibson then doubled to right center, recording her first collegiate hit as well as her first collegiate RBI.
In the 10-3 win,
Brittney Miller picked up three hits while
Shannon Carr and
Lauren Pletscher had two apiece. Gibson, Squires, Marciniak, Rayba and Swanson each also recorded one hit.
In the second game of the day,
Chelsea Wiggins picked up her first win of the season against the host team, Elon, 5-4. Wiggins pitched 5.2 innings, giving up only six hits and three runs. She tallied two strike outs and one walk.
Jessie Munson and
Rachel Zerona led the charge offensively as they both recorded two hits. Munson and
Shannon Carr each had one RBI as the Golden Grizzlies took advantage of the five Phoenix errors. Oakland tallied ten hits and only two strikeouts in the contest.
