CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Oakland men's and women's swimming and diving teams had an impressive showing on the opening day of the CSCAA National Invitational, with the women sitting in third (149.5) and the men in sixth (166.5).

On the women's side,
Katie Colwell swam to a first place finish in the 50 freestyle in a season-best 22.80 earning the first individual CSCAA National Invitational title in program history.

Sydney McDowell finished top five in the 50 breaststroke, touching the wall in 28.52

Grace Shinske added to the Golden Grizzlies' point total with a sixth place finish in the 50 backstroke (25.30) and a seventh place finish in the 50 butterfly (24.72)

In relay action, Oakland finished third in the 400 medley relay with Shinske, McDowell,
Susan LaGrand and Colwell finishing in 3:39.90. The 200 freestyle team of
Karlee Marsh, McDowell,
Erin Donagan and Colwell earned a seventh place finish in 1:32.88.

On the men's side,
Paul Huch placed second in the 50 freestyle, his only individual race of the day, finishing in 20.20.

The men's relay teams had a successful day with the 400 medley team of
Will Gayne,
Tony Eriksson,
Mack Flowers and Huch finishing fourth place with a time of 3:14.48. The 200 freestyle team of Flowers,
Rudy Aguilar, Eriksson and Huch finished fifth in 1:21.09.

The Golden Grizzlies earned a combined 316 points, the highest point total for both a men's and women's squad at the meet.

Prelim sessions will resume Friday at 9:30 a.m., with the finals sessions beginning at 6 p.m.
