
AKRON, Ohio - The men's and women's swim and dive teams continue to sit in second after day two of competition at the Akron Zippy Invite as the men have a total of 1223.5 points while the women have 1244 points.
Rudy Aguilar won the men's 200 free race with a time of 1:37.28, which set a new meet record, a new pool record and is also the league's top mark. Aguilar was also a member of the first place 800 free relay (6:34.63) who set new meet and pool records and moved into the top slot in the league standings. Other team members on the 800 free relay squad included;
Ben Davis,
Mack Flowers and Marko Khotynetskyi.
Grace Shinske won the 100 back finals with a time of 53.46. Her time set a new school record, was an NCAA D1 B cut mark as well as a new Horizon League top time.
Susan LaGrand placed runner-up behind Shinske with a time of 54.76. LaGrand and Shinske also finished third (54.38) and fourth (54.57) respectively in the 100 fly, claiming the first and second league top times in the event.
Shinske also set a new league top time in the 200 medley relay (1:40.83) with teammates
Sydney McDowell,
Susan LaGrand and
Katie Colwell while the men's 200 medley relay of Marko Khotynetskyi,
Ryan Geheb,
Mack Flowers and
Christian Bart placed runner-up clocking in a time of 1:28.30, also a new league top time.
On the women's side of the 200 free,
Sohvi Nenonen set a new league top time, placing third at 1:49.72.
Emily Aycock placed fifth in the event with a time of 1:50.50.
Sydney McDowell placed runner-up in the 100 breast, earning an NCAA D1 B cut mark as well as a league top time.
Taylor Bailey placed sixth in the event. On the men's side,
Christian Bart finished runner-up and set a new league top time (54.80) while
Ryan Geheb placed sixth.
In addition, freshman Marko Khotynetskyi placed runner-up in the 100 back (48.04) setting a new Horizon League top time while
Will Gayne placed sixth.
The Golden Grizzlies will close out the final day of the Zippy Invite tomorrow, Dec. 8.
