
AKRON, Ohio - Both the men and women's swim teams find themselves in second place after day one of the Zippy Invite, hosted by Akron in the Ocasek Natatorium. The women's team racked up 503 points, trailing the first place Zips who have 715.5 points while the men scored 541.5 points, trailing Cornell (725 points).
Sophomore
Jenna Maas had herself a day as she placed 21
st in the 50 free with a time of 24.09, which was a lifetime best mark for the Holland, Mich. native.
Rudy Aguilar also earned swimmer of the session by his Oakland peers as he won the consolation 500 free finals, dropping five seconds from the morning prelims session. Aguilar also placed third in the 400 medley relay with Marko Khotynetskyi,
Christian Bart and
Mack Flowers (3:15.95).
Jordan Smith took command on the board, placing first in the 3-meter dive by a score of 307.05 points while teammate
Campbell Kolk took fifth (252.30). On the women's side,
Bernie Turchi placed third in the 1-meter earning a score of 257.60.
Katie Colwell placed runner-up in the 50 free finals with a time of 23.10 while also taking second in the 400 medley relay (3:40.56) with team members
Grace Shinske,
Sydney McDowell and
Susan LaGrand. LaGrand (2:00.51) and Shinske (2:02.18) also earned second and third places respectively in the 200 IM.
Christian Bart and
Joey Mangner placed third and eighth respectively in the men's 50 free finals.
The Golden Grizzlies will jump back into the pool tomorrow Dec. 7 with prelims beginning at 9 a.m. with finals following at 6 p.m.
