CLEVELAND, Ohio – Freshmen 
Taylor Bailey and 
Colton Phelps had a strong showing Saturday against Cleveland State as the duo tallied three first place finishes apiece en route to a pair of victories over the Vikings for the men's and women's swimming and diving teams.
 
The Golden Grizzlies defeated CSU 197-103 in women's competition to remain perfect in Horizon League action while the men handed the Vikings a 188-112 loss in the regular season finale, winning 15 of 16 events. Cleveland State was voted as the Horizon League's top team in this year's preseason poll on the men's side.
 
On the women's side, Bailey earned the top spot in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.77), 200 breaststroke (2:19.82) and 200 IM (2:09.44).
 
For the men, Phelps placed first in the 200 butterfly (1:50.68), 200 backstroke (1:49.71) and 200 IM (1:51.73).
 
In diving, the women took the top three spots in the 1 meter competition, led by 
Bernie Turchi (257.55), 
Angelique Wise finished second (237.15), and 
Katelynn Cummins recorded a third place finish (210.83). Turchi (233.10) and Wise (223.58) finished first and second respectively in the 3 meter dive, while Cummins placed fourth (206.10).
 
Reigning Nike Horizon League Diver of the Week, 
Joe Smith swept the competition in the 1 meter and 3 meter recording a score of 368.03 and 346.65 respectively. 
Jordan Smith placed fourth for the Golden Grizzlies tallying a score of 245.55 in the 1 meter and 273.83 in the 3 meter.
 
Oakland will compete at the Horizon League Championships Feb. 13 through Feb. 16 in Indianapolis hosted by IUPUI.
