"I am very excited to have Coach Brumfield joining our staff this year. I have known Katrina for about five years and have been very impressed with the results she produced as an assistant at YSU," said Rice. "As an events coach, her skill set fits very well with our current staff and as a leader, you can see the command she has at each of the Horizon League championships over the past six years."

"As a new head coach, she will do a wonderful job leading our track and field coaching staff, student-athletes and our program as a whole," added Rice. "She brings great passion for our sport and that passion is one that will help all our student-athletes become well rounded and responsible contributors to our program and prepare them for life after graduation. I am looking forward to working with her as we continue to take our program to new heights. This is truly an exciting time to be a Golden Grizzly!"

Prior to YSU, Brumfield helped establish the jumps program as an assistant coach Utica College and then spent two seasons at Millersville University where she coached six NCAA Division II national qualifiers and four All-Conference selections along with numerous conference qualifiers and school record holders.

"As I accept the position of head track and field coach at Oakland University, I feel so honored, blessed and flat-out excited to be a Golden Grizzly," said Brumfield. "I'm still pinching myself and convincing myself this is reality that I get to live this dream. Who would've thought starting out at Utica college in upstate New York to going to Millersville University in central Pennsylvania and most recently coaching at Youngstown State as an assistant coach that now I would be in this great position and honor to be a head track and field coach at Oakland University."

"I am so thankful for Paul and Holly {Kerstner} for believing in me and allowing the opportunity to bring my energy to an already amazing program", added Brumfield. "I look forward to working with all the student-athletes and coaching staff to continue to build and go after conference championships and Wear the Bear!"
