ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Oakland men's and women's track and field teams will kick off their outdoor season by traveling to Vanderbilt University on Friday, March 23 and Saturday, March 24 to compete in the Vanderbilt Black & Gold Invitational. The Golden Grizzlies will be one of many teams competing at the newly renovated Vanderbilt Track and Field Complex, which includes a brand new running surface that is making its debut at the invite. Competition on Friday begins at 4 p.m. while Saturday begins at 10 a.m.
At the Black & Gold Invite in 2016, Nicholas Girodat won the 100m and 200m with times of 10.63 and 21.50 respectively, while Meghan Daly set the then school javelin record with a mark of 114 ft., 10.75 in. The relay team of Nicole Martinbianco, Kendell Jefferson, Sydney Sterling and Kynihay Brown also set a school record in the 4x100 with a time of 46.77 to finish seventh place at the meet while 4x400 team consisting of Andrea Koenigsknecht, Odette Ingall, Elizabeth Girardot and Sydney Sterling finished seventh and set a school record with a time of 3:53.68.
The last time the Golden Grizzlies competed was at the 2018 Horizon League Indoor Championships where the men placed third and the women placed second. Maggie Schneider took home the title of Women's Freshman of the Year after placing first in the 3000m (9:59.74) and Zach Stadnika claimed the Men's Outstanding Fielding Performer after placing first in the heptathlon (5059 pts). The distance medley team of Heather Czarnecki, Jessica Krone, Casey Stribbell and Madison Leigh finished in first (12:11.52) as did Kendell Jefferson in the 400m setting a school with a time of 56.20.
The men's 4x400 relay also had an outstanding performance at the championships as they came in first place and also set a school record with a time of 3:15.85. The relay team consisted of Corey Goodloe, Tyler Brenner, Andrew Storm and Jimmie Williams.
