GREEN BAY, Wis. – Joe Smith and Bernie Turchi earned first place finishes in both the 1 meter and 3 meter diving competition as the Oakland men's and women's swimming and diving teams split with Green Bay Saturday afternoon from Dorschel Natatorium.
 
The men's squad fell to Green Bay, 164.50-135.50, the first loss to a Horizon League opponent since joining the conference in the 2013-14 season. On the women's side, the Golden Grizzlies cruised to a 176-124 win over the Phoenix.
 
Smith recorded a score of 331.42 in the 1 meter dive, and a 379.05 in the 3 meter.
 
Turchi also added two first place finishes, earning a 273.37 on the 1 meter, and a 250.50 on the 3 meter.
 
The Golden Grizzlies earned a combined 16 first place finishes between the men and women, including the diving competition.
 
The Oakland women's team returns to the pool Saturday, Nov. 10 at 1 p.m. for a home meet against Eastern Michigan.
 
Both the men and the women will travel to Akron, Ohio to compete at the Zippy Invite Nov. 30 through Dec. 2.
