INDIANAPOLIS -- Oakland volleyball's
Aleksandra Malek and
Jamie Walling were named to the 2018 Horizon League All-Academic Team announced by the league office.
Malek, a senior from Pszow, Poland, finished the season ranking second on the team in kills and kills per set while recording 16 matches of 10 kills or more. She also set career highs in kills, assists, service aces, digs and blocks. Malek currently owns a 3.64 grade-point average (GPA) in integrative studies.
Walling, a sophomore from Normal, Ill., ranked inside the Horizon League's top-10 in hitting percentage (second), kills per set (third) and points per set (third.) She recorded 20 kills or more in four matches in 2018, including a career high 26 on Nov. 10, the second most for a match among Horizon League players this season. Walling led the Golden Grizzlies in kills, kills per set and hitting percentage while ranking second on the team in total blocks. Walling holds a 3.95 GPA in business.
To be eligible for Horizon League All-Academic consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale), have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits, and participate in 50 percent of the team's overall contests.
