ROCHESTER, Mich. -- Distance runner Ashley Burr has been named Oakland Student Athlete of the Week for the week of May 1-7 after being named Outstanding Performer on May 7 at the 2017 Horizon League Outdoor Championships hosted by Youngstown State.

Burr, a senior from Midland, Mich., earned the honor after winning the 3000-meter steeplechase on May 6 with a new facility record time of 10:31.98. She also finished runner-up in the 5000-meter at 17:08.00.

Both the mens and women's track and field teams finished runner-up in the meet for the first time in program history as the men finished with a program high 203 points followed by the women with 157 points.
