OAKLAND FACES CLEMSON IN NIT OPENING ROUND

ROCHESTER, Mich. - Oakland will compete in its first-ever National Invitation Tournament (NIT) on Tuesday night as the No. 7 seed Golden Grizzlies (24-8, 14-4 Horizon League) travel to No. 2 seed Clemson (17-15, 6-12 Atlantic Coast Conference) for an 8 p.m. tip on ESPNU. The game can be heard on Oakland's flagship radio station WDFN-AM (1130) or the iHeart radio app with Neal Ruhl (play-by-play) and Scott MacDonald (analyst) on the call.

Oakland won its last nine regular season games to capture its first-ever Horizon League regular season championship in just its fourth year in the conference. The Golden Grizzlies are 45-23 (.662) all-time in Horizon League play.

The Golden Grizzlies are competing in the NCAA postseason for the eighth time in the last nine years. The Black and Gold are 7-8 all-time in the Division I era in postseason tournaments. Oakland has made four appearances in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason tournament, three in the NCAA tournament, and one in the Vegas16 and NIT. Last season, the Golden Grizzlies made it to the championship game of the inaugural Vegas16.

Clemson makes its 16th appearance in the NIT, most of any school in the NIT this year, posting an overall record of 18-15. The Tigers have never won an NIT championship, falling in the title game in 1999 and 2007.

The Golden Grizzlies dropped their only game against Clemson, 70-60, on Dec. 22, 2014 inside Littlejohn Coliseum. Oakland is 0-5 all-time against schools in the ACC.

Oakland tied a school record with 13 home wins this season and the 24 wins is tied for third in program history. The Golden Grizzlies are 9-1 over their last 10 games and are averaging 87.1 points per game over the last seven contests. Oakland boasts the nation's seventh-best road record at 10-2 (.833).
